Benjie Wrubel
Benjie Wrubel is a stand-up comedian with the delivery of a man who’s emotionally detached — but self-aware enough to turn it into content. With a style that blends self-deprecation, deadpan absurdity, and the kind of dark humor that makes you laugh and then feel mildly concerned, Benjie has carved out a comedic voice that’s uniquely his: sharp, layered, and always a little too honest.
Born in Colorado Springs and forged in the peculiar fires of Aspen, Benjie started stand-up in a mountain town known more for cocaine and ski passes than tight five-minute sets. In a region better suited to après-ski influencers than depressed comedians, Benjie honed his voice in rooms that weren’t always ready for it — and that’s exactly why it works.
His material is sharp, offbeat, and occasionally a little unhinged. Whether he’s unpacking addiction, romantic dysfunction, or the quiet panic of simply being alive, Benjie finds punchlines in the places most people avoid looking. If he’s the kind of guy who seems like he’s emotionally unavailable — it’s only because he knows you’re not ready for his damage.
In 2025, he’s making his debut at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe with “Zero Lives Left” — a tight, 30-minute comedy show for anyone who’s ever felt like they’re out of chances, out of serotonin, and still showing up out of spite. It’s not a therapy session — but if you laugh hard enough, it might count as progress. The show blends dark confessional storytelling with left-turn punchlines, offering a glimpse into what happens when self-destruction meets self-awareness… and then tries to sell tickets.
Benjie has performed at TACAW (The Arts Campus at Willits) in Colorado, as well as a handful of bars, black boxes, and basements across the mountain west and beyond. He’s new, hungry, and increasingly comfortable talking about his mental state on stage for strangers.
When he’s not performing, he’s probably watching documentaries about birds, ghosting someone he matched with, or standing alone at a party wondering if he’s funny or just damaged in a charming way. (It’s both.)
Offstage, Benjie is a recovering people-pleaser, a chronic overthinker, and someone who treats every text message like he’s diffusing a bomb while wearing drunk goggles. He doesn’t claim to have it all figured out — but if you’re looking for an authentic, sharp, and slightly unraveling perspective on the world, he’s happy to disappoint you live.

Or better yet, come see “Zero Lives Left” this August at the Edinburgh Fringe — because nothing says “mentally stable” like flying across the world to emotionally overshare for 30 minutes a day!
